Now that the restrictions of Lock Down are slowly being lifted and your life is going back to the ‘new normal’ you may wonder how to keep your puppy happy and fulfilled, when you have less time to spend with puppy. Employing a dog walker or sending your puppy to dog day care will not educate your pup in how to be confident in his/her own space or will it educate your pup in understanding how to successfully fit into your true lifestyle.

At KELFORD we have noted that many of the pups involved in this unusual ‘puppy surge’ have been utilized as a sponge for human emotion. This is fine if the canine in question is a trained Therapy Dog, but is detrimental to the successful development of a balanced puppy.
Excessive canine/human connection over even a short period of time causes confusion, escalated energies, the development of undesirable behaviour, and sadly may cause severe separation anxiety in the young canine.

As Lock Down is slowly lifted and work resumes, or maybe it is now you are considering a holiday, this indeed is a good time to have a puppy rechanneled and professionally educated.
All of our training is breed specific and we specialize in the training of combination breeds, considering the genetics of the individual canine and lifestyle before designing the KELFORD program, which is approved by owner prior to commencing.

At Kelford we are dedicated to the training of young canines so that they go on to live a happy, fulfilled life with their owners. During the first stages of development the young canine is highly impressionable, it is at this time that all you do with your puppy has relevance to its attitude in later life.
Focussed breed specific training develops the trust respect bond. This training creates a well mannered canine that has no need for corrective training later in life. Having to carry out corrective training is time consuming, hard work and requires dedication and consistency on the part of the owner. The need for corrective training arises from the human having confused their canine during the initial crucial development stage.

Kelford offers Breed Specific Training to ensure each individual canine is correctly channelled in order to maximise the potential of that canine.

Suitable when a puppy is in their first stage of crucial development. This is whereby all base disciples must be sealed if the dog is to develop into a well-mannered, happy, balanced canine companion that enhances your lifestyle. If your pup is a combination of two high energy breeds that instinctively becomes very stimulated by air scent, ground scent, and all that moves, this enthusiasm will be channelled in a positive way. It is at this time of his development when the canine will enjoy being correctly directed and this is when they will learn to deal calmly and successfully with all that the human environment throws at them in preparation of when they develop in to an adult canine.

Each Training Program is individually designed to suit the mind-set of the canine and to reach the owner’s expectation. For this we require you to list all good points about your canine, all bad points about your canine, and your expectations. We will also require some information about your lifestyle to make certain the training will allow your canine companion on completion of his training to fit in to your specific lifestyle successfully and enjoy a fulfilled life with you.

We are most competent in the education of Foundation Stage Puppies and recognise they are capable of absorbing a certain amount at any one time and then require a rest period to make certain the puppy enjoys the whole of the education experience.

We have a team of trained dogs that intermittently assist us in the training process of the guest dogs and pups. The trained dogs utilised in KELFORD Foundation Programs are Working Breeds that are trained in both Therapy/Assistance dogs and Gundog work.
